Forking pathways are where there is a part of a story that allows for a choice to be made before the story can carry on. From this choice many can come after that alter the outcome of the story.
There are many ways that this can be shown in design the most common is through a flow chart. There is also another name for this type of story and that is non liner, where there is not a set story but amounts of choices.
